Canada continues the permanent residence invite for the skilled workers in the Express Entry and announced new measurements for international students

On January 23rd, 2024, Canada invited 1,040 Express Entry candidates (open to all programs) to apply for permanent residence. The minimum score used for this drawing was 543.

On January 22, 2024, the Honorable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, announced that the government of Canada will be defining a cap on the number of international students for the next two years, approximately 360,000 applications are estimated to be approved for 2024, which represents 35% less than the previous year. At the end of 2025, this measure will be re-evaluated and decided on. There are other important changes for international students, including:

  • The proof of funds table was updated.
  • The post-graduation work permit will be limited for programs such as master’s degrees.
  • The open work permit for couples will be limited to students in programs such as master’s degrees.
  • International students must now include a letter of attestation from the province in which they plan to study.
